Dear Elder Team,

I’m Colleen Cheek, the new Community Executive Director at the Clippard Family YMCA, and I’m reaching out to introduce myself and invite your school to participate in a fun and family-friendly community event.

Our annual Boo Fest is happening on Thursday, October 23 from 6–7:30 PM, and we’re seeking volunteer “trunkers” and volunteer “trunk helpers” to help bring the event to life. We anticipate 750–1,000 attendees, local families excited to celebrate Halloween in a safe, welcoming space.

🎃 All vehicles must be parked by 5:30 PM
🎃 Decorating happens between 5:30–6 PM
🎃 Bring candy for 1,000 children
🎃 Top 3 trunks win prizes!

We’d love your help spreading the word — whether that’s among your staff, school clubs, sports teams, or parents — and would welcome any group who wants to represent your school!

CHRISTMAS TOY DRIVE FLYER DISTRIBUTION
LEADER: Mr. Rich Mack ’87

ABOUT

An Elder grad named Mr. Rich Mack ’87 is looking for some volunteers for a great Christmas project.  For the past 6 years, Mr. Mack hosts a Toy Drive for the kids who are served by Child Focus, a terrific non-profit organization in Cincinnati.  Mr. Mack passes out fliers with drive information to four different neighborhoods asking for toy donations.  The toys are then collected and presented to Child Focus.

On Saturday, November 8 in the morning, he needs 12 hard-working Elder men to help distribute the flyers door-to-door. Volunteers will meet at the addresses listed below where you will be assigned neighborhoods and receive basic instructions.  Adult volunteers will also be present to assist with transportation if needed.

Here are the neighborhoods where the collections are taking place:

  • Legendary Run (4 volunteers starting at 9 AM and reporting to Mr. Mack’s house at 3943 Durango Green Dr. Cleves, Ohio 45002)
  • Durango Green/Aston Woods (4 volunteers starting at 9 AM and reporting to Mr. Mack’s house at 3943 Durango Green Dr, Cleves, OH 45002)
  • Pickway/Buckridge (4 volunteers starting at 11 AM and reporting to Tara Keith’s house at 7404 Pickway Dr. Cincinnati, Ohio 45233.)  Tara is a Director at Child Focus.

REGISTRATION
If you can help Mr. Mack with this project, please email him by Fri, Oct 24 at rpmack1969@gmail.com to let him know you are interested, and which neighborhood interests you most. SPACE IS LIMITED.

Volunteers are need TAs to assist two Sunday mornings a month, and possibly one Wednesday night a month if possible. Teacher Assistants help make a class run smoothly, through working with children one-on-one, distributing materials, and keeping the energy high and the children engaged in the activities. TAs also help us ensure every child’s needs are met in a classroom environment. We are looking for dedicated, energetic high schoolers who have a passion for sharing the faith with younger kids to consider volunteering. We can provide service hours and all training necessary. If a student is 18 or older, we will help you become SafeParish certified. Volunteering happens at St Veronica school in Newtown, and possibly at St Elizabeth Ann Seton school in Milford.

Panthers –

My name is Chris Holmes, and I’m a Lieutenant with the Newport Fire Department. I graduated from Elder High School in 2002, and as someone who’s always admired the strength of both the Elder and Seton communities, I wanted to reach out personally.

Every year, our local union — Newport Professional Firefighters Local 45 — hosts a charity bowling tournament to raise funds for programs like Beyond the Call, Operation Warm Coat, and our Local 45 Scholarship Fund. These efforts directly support local kids, families, and veterans in Northern Kentucky.

A few more volunteers are needed to help sell raffle tickets, handle split-the-pot and more from 10 AM – 2 PM.  Volunteers get free food!
